Lori and Family,
Hello! I just had to write and tell you how we are doing since we saw you last! Everything is going so well, it feels like a fairy tale! As you know, the first few months felt like I was dreaming. I was afraid to wake up; I kept expecting something to go wrong. Here we are a year and a half later and everything is still as wonderful as ever! Keegan is growing up, he will be 10 this year and he is so grateful for Colt! He has changed our lives immensely. I feel like words could never explain the difference we experience every single day. Keegan’s nightmares have subsided and Colt helps him to “self-soothe” …he (and we) was ready to learn how to become more independent. Colt has walked into our lives and given us more than any amount of money in the world. Keegan has the ability and confidence to walk in any public place, and we have the confidence that he can do it! Gone are the days of avoiding functions and outings…. Keegan still shy’s away from meeting strangers, unless they ask about his great dog! Keegan will go on and on and on!
Actually, I am writing to tell you that we were able to walk inside a children’s arcade this weekend… Can you believe it! Keegan asked to go and we agreed, but we were prepared to leave if the noise and activity level were unbearable for him. Colt was not even a little addled by all of the “chaos” that was present. I cried happy tears…. Every day we learn to trust public situations more and more, we also learn to trust Keegan and Colt. They are becoming quite the “team” and we could never imagine our lives without Colt. I will send a short video soon. Yes, we are keeping up with his training… I know you are asking yourself!
Colt happily summons us whenever given the command, and he still thinks the touch therapy is a big game! It helps knowing that Colt loves his “job” as much as he loves Keegan. Colt knows the night time ritual and is in bed waiting for Keegan every night. Keegan loves to count the scoops of food and feed Colt, this helps Keegan feel like he is a “grown up”….
Lori, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You and your work have changed our lives forever; I do not think Keegan will ever be without a service dog again! This has had such an impact….like I said earlier, words cannot express the feelings of pride we have when we see our son accomplishing things we thought might be “untouchable”.
From the bottom of our hearts…..Thank you!
— The Roydin Family
Dear Lori,
We hope this letter finds you well! We are writing to say “thank – you” again, for the wonderful addition to our family. Maxx has adjusted to life in Colorado so well; it feels like he has always been here with us! Alden is accomplishing milestones, we and his physicians never thought possible! He is speaking in full sentences and has even volunteered to speak at a home school gathering about Maxx! You know what a huge statement that is considering where Alden was just a year ago! We cannot even begin to count the ways Maxx has made a difference in all of our lives, but especially our son!
Maxx has developed an intuitive relationship with Alden and the two of them are absolutely in love with each other. Maxx still loves to fetch his toys and we love to “indulge” him once in a while . Alden has a new found confidence to try things like a slide at the park, and I can count the number “meltdowns” in the past year on one hand!!! Simply….AMAZING, because we were having multiple episodes a day when we first came to you!
We thank our lucky stars that we found you and were able to obtain Maxx so soon! I can’t imagine Maxx coming to us any other way. Gary and I are convinced that you and your training methods made all the difference in the world! You were able to train Maxx to perform such unique tasks and it feels like he was born to be with us and help Alden.
We send our love and thanks!
P.S. it would be unfair if I didn’t mention what a relief Maxx has been for Gary and me as well! Thank you, Thank you!
