Lori Shanks is the owner and founder of A K-9 Campus, LLC. She has been training dogs of her own since she was a child. This evolved into helping animals/dogs in any way possible! Volunteering with neighboring pets, animal shelters and offering advice on dog training. Lori also worked as a Veterinary Technician for 5 years and was often called upon to handle the most aggressive clients. She had a certain “knack” for handling the most fearsome or aggressive patients. Lori then attended Flagler University, where she graduated with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration. After graduating, Lori decided to return to the career that she loved most…..Dog Training.
Lori is an expert in training obedience and behavior modification, she believes in creating a plan for each dog/owner team, as they are unique in their needs and abilities. There is not one blanket approach to any training or behavior situation and welcomes the opportunity to work with dogs and owners of all types.
As a “balanced” trainer, Lori uses positive techniques like marker training to teach behaviors. Marker Training creates a language between dog and handler, and provides a great foundation for establishing the dog/owner relationship. This method also creates problem solving dogs versus reactionary behaviors. Marker training has been used to train animals of all types, including chickens, birds, and whales.
Lori currently serves on the Board of Directors of a 5013c Not for Profit Corporation that trains allergen detection dogs. She has also produced top notch graduates from one of the nation’s best narcotic detection schools. Lori also specializes in training service dogs for children and adults. Most commonly trained are Autistic Support Service Dogs and Deaf Assistance Service Dogs. She is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).
Lori has been well respected in the dog training arena for many years. After recently relocating, with her Husband and two children, to Newnan, Georgia; she has chosen to open a facility to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for training, boarding and daycare for dogs. She looks forward to serving the community of dog lovers!
